What should I opt - further studies or some job?
What Should I opt?
This question comes in mind of every engineer atleast once after completing their
graduation. As many get placed after completing B.E. or B. tech. but still due to
global recession thing are not ensured that many students who are passing out these
2-3 years don't get a permanent job. It will take quite a lot of skill and a lot
of luck to stick with your job. Many of you are confused what to do after their
engineering. I thought this is a subject of utmost importance.
Further Studies :
To continue your studies, you can go for Post graduate courses like M.S/ M.Tech,
IAS/ IPS, Navy/ NDA and Finance related courses like MBA and then you can obtain
a Ph.D. If you prefer doing P.G in your field of study, you can go for M.S/ M.Tech.
If you are ready to go outside India and financially sound you can prefer M.S. For
that you need to appear for
GRE/
TOEFL/
GATE.
Another option for higher education is P.G in some finance related courses you can
definitely go for MBA. CAT
and GMAT
are the popular exam for MBA entrance.
Otherwise Indian Civil Service is also a good option. The Indian Civil Service serves
as the backbone of India and carries great respect and responsibilities. The fact
that may influence you is every year a big share of top posts in the civil services
exams are bagged by professionals from various streams, shows that the IAS is still
the dream job.
Job/ work :
However there are various kinds of jobs in Software industry which you get accordingly
as your course of study or your specialization. What ever the branch you are in
during your engineering you can get into a software industry with simply good communication
skills. It is good if you get a job during the campus placements itself. This may
be a good decision if you do job for sometime and plan for further studies or study
simultaneously.
If you are financially sound, you can start your own company with a little experience
with some other company. Still there are various choices in jobs like lecturer in
some famous engineering college, call centre jobs, technical jobs, entrepreneurship, technical
jobs outside India etc.
So before deciding your career, whether to go for the jobs
or to continue with education you need to answer the question :
- From where you want to pursue your Higher Education.
- What exactly you feel and know about the Job prospects after Masters?
- What are your future plans and what you want to become or do in long term?
- How and where your selected education would help you to achieve your pre-defined
targets.
There are many options you prefer after completing your degree. If you are economically
efficient, then it is better to go for further studies. A specialization will always
earn more salary as well as priority during interviews. Otherwise you can find some
job. So decide your career and prepare accordingly to reach your goal.
