CAT and mouse tension rattles students in Gujarat
Common Admission Test (CAT)
candidates in Gujarat were racked by anxiety on Thursday as the registration website
failed to offer them time slots for the test in the state. Students feared
that they would have to travel all the way to centres like Mumbai. However, the
problem was resolved by evening as CAT authorities increased the candidate capacity.
I was very upset because the registration for the test had begun hardly ten days
ago said Archana Tulsani a student from the city. So I had to choose Mumbai as my
test centre. But in the evening, I learnt that the problem had been solved and I
rushed to change my test centre to Ahmedabad.
A faculty of IIM-Calcutta and convener of CAT 2011, Janakiraman Moorthy, said: We
got to know of the problem in the morning and we immediately started solving it.
He said the number of seats was limited and had become full. We have increased the
capacity and there will be no problems now, he said, but refused to reveal any numbers.
While there were three test centres for CAT in the state until last year, there
is only one this year, at L J Institute of Management. Around 7,000 students appeared
in CAT last year in Gujarat. There were many candidates from Jaipur, Indore and
Udaipur taking the test in Ahmedabad.
