Pupil who moved HC against GLC secures admission
Swati Khinvasara who moved the HC against Government Law
Colleges (GLC) admission process, finally managed to get a seat under the merit
list, after some students cancelled their admissions.
After losing the case in the court early this month, Khinvasara had lost all hopes
of getting in to the premier college. However, after cancellations against admission
she managed to secure a seat.
A division bench dismissed the petition filed by Khinvasara who challenged the deduction
of 5% from the scores of students who did not take the state board exams. The judges
upheld the policy saying that the college had adhered to the norms and it would
leave students from the state board at a disadvantage if the policy is discontinued.
After her petition was dismissed, Swati was all set to move the apex court. However,
moving the Supreme Court would have meant one more month wasted in court proceedings.
It was pointless to do that. I would have missed a months lectures, so I gave up,
said Khinvasara.
The admissions to the course closed at 1.6% more than my aggregate. After a few
cancellations, I got in through merit. Swati had moved the court as she believed
that giving away 5% to state board students was unfair for those from other boards.
A GLC official said that a few students had given up on their seats and taken admissions
elsewhere after the process was delayed this year. Since lectures in other colleges
had already started by then, some students cancelled their admissions. Khinvasara
has managed to adjust to the group and there was no ill feeling against her, said
an official.
