Assistant public prosecutor A. V. Ausekar examined three witnesses to prove the guilt
of the students.
Judicial magistrate first class Swarup Bose on June 24 slapped
a fine of Rs. 500 each on two college students for using unfair means at the higher
secondary examination in 2008.
A girl had appeared as a dummy candidate on behalf of her boyfriend for the book
keeping and accountancy subject at a city-based college on March 5, 2008. When asked
to furnish her identity card, the girl failed to do so. She told the examiner that
she had left the identity card at home. The examiner on inspecting the names of
the students appearing for the exam found that she was appearing on behalf of a
male student.
During questioning the girl admitted that she was appearing on behalf of her friend.
The boy, who was also summoned for questioning, admitted to deputing the girl on
his behalf.
The college examination centre in charge Shivaji Khede registered a complaint against
the students with the Deccan Gymkhana police station under relevant sections of
the Indian Penal Code and Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractice at University, Board
and other specified Examinations Act.
