Seat distribution list for other engineering institutes which was to be declared
on July 12 will now be announced on July 18 after and the CAP rounds will commence
from July 19.
A total of 1,08,385 candidates have been declared eligible
for admission to engineering courses for the academic year 2011-12. The
directorate of technical education (DTE) announced on Monday evening the final merit
list of the eligible candidates who will now participate in the centralised admission
process (CAP). While CAP rounds for autonomous institutes will start from tomorrow,
there is slight change in the admission schedule of the other engineering institutes.
Seat distribution list for other engineering institutes which was to be declared
on July 12 will now be announced on July 18 after and the CAP rounds will commence
from July 19. There are a total of 1.27 lakh seats available for engineering courses.
A total of 1,10,849 candidates have applied for engineering admissions, out of which
2,464 have been declared ineligible for not fulfilling the required criteria.
The AICTE recently relaxed the eligibility for engineering courses by 5%. After
state government's approval on the AICTE notification, there was fresh round for
newly eligible students to apply for admission.
According to information provided by DTE, the exact number of seats available for
engineering seats is yet to be finalised. Hence the seat distribution list that
was to be out on July 12 has been postponed to July 18. An official from DTE said,
"Minority institutes have to yet submit the data of their surrendered seats. Some
institutes are likely to get increased intake capacity. At the same time, some new
institutes may be approved in the near future. Considering these factors, even if
the seat distribution list is declared on Tuesday, it will be tentative and subject
to change. Hence, the change in the admission schedule."
The CAP round can commence only after the list of seat distribution is declared,
as the information about available seats has to be provided to students to fill
the option form.
"Since information on availability of seats in autonomous engineering institutes
is already available, CAP round can commence from Tuesday. We are hoping that the
autonomous institutes' admission process will be over by then, so that students
will have clear picture before they put their preferences", said the official. If
this admission process gets over, students who have missed their chance getting
into autonomous institutes will also have better idea for applying to other institutes.
Meanwhile, 16,000 students have been declared eligible for admission to Pharmacy
courses this year.
