Police resort to lathi charge to control angry students, parents
The Polytechnic College in Fatehgunj locality
in the city witnessed a clash between students and college administration, after
the college authorities refused to accept students' applications saying the quota
for the day was over.
Police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse students, who tried to go
on the rampage. However, the situation was soon brought under control.
About 1,000 students, seeking admission in the college, made a beeline since 3:00
am on Wednesday morning after the SSCE results. However, these students turned angry,
when the college authorities stopped accepting forms saying the day's quota of 200
forms was already filled. The enraged students then allegedly tried to enter the
office by breaking the iron grills.
Finally, police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation. Meena Patel,
a guardian, standing in the queue alleged that the application forms were being
accepted from the back door, even as many like her kept standing in queue since
3:00am. She further alleged that the administration was bribed to do so.
Several girls also complained of misbehavior by the college security staff.
DN Panchal, principal of the college said, "The main server of the computer can
accept only 200 forms, which is why the situation arose."
However, his reply did not satisfy the students and guardians.
