The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) has
cancelled 77 admissions as they did not comply with eligibility criteria and reservation
norms. Colleges in a hurry to fill vacant seats overlooked these criteria.
All these students had already paid their fees and had begun studies.
Of 77 students, 75 are students of Bachelors of Engineering (BE) while two are M.Pharm
students. The two M.Pharm students were given admissions without a B.Pharm degree.
They were studying in a college in Bangalore that announced their B.Pharm results
recently.
ACPCs admission process ends in August. Then, it asks colleges to fill the remaining
seats on its own. As several seats remained vacant, the government relaxed several
rules. It allowed admission to students from other states, students with more than
two trials, GUJCET students from previous years and even who did not appear for
GUJCET. The admission criteria were 50 pc marks for general students and 45 pc in
reservation category. Later, AICTE reduced the criteria to 45 pc for general students
and 40 pc in reservation category.
Admissions were given to outstate students of reservation category. However, policies
of reservation are different in every state which was ignored by colleges. But when
ACPC checked details of admissions, it cancelled admissions that violated the rules.ast
year also, 100 admissions were cancelled.
