No admission for CBSE school exam pass students: CAP chief

Std XI Bifocal Stream

Students from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), who passed their Std X by appearing in the school exam instead of the central board exam, will not be considered for admission to Std XI bifocal seats at junior colleges in Pune and neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad. There are 12 CBSE students, who passed their Std X school exam and have applied for Std XI bifocal seats through the centralised admission process (CAP), deputy director (education) Sunil Magar, who heads the CAP panel, told TOI on Monday. The panel will drop the names of these 12 students from the provisional merit list for bifocal seats, which is to be released on Tuesday, he added.

Issues like delay on the part of the CBSE in issuing mark sheets to Std X pass students and how to admit students, who passed their Std X school exam instead of the central board exam, had held up the CAP for the last few days. The CAP panel had initially planned the release of the bifocal provisional list on July 7.
Magar said, we have decided to strictly go by the guidelines mentioned in the state department of school educations circular of June 15, which provide that the CBSE students, who passed Std X from the school exam, have to seek admission to the higher secondary schools run by the CBSE.
The only exception that the circular provides is in the case of transfer of employee to a place where the CBSE does not have a higher secondary school, he added. Even in such cases, the admission is to be given on a provisional basis with the condition that the concerned student will appear and clear the CBSEs mid-term external exam, to get the seat allotment regularised, said Magar.

Asked whether the panel’s decision will apply to the seat allotments for the larger section of the arts, science and commerce seats, agar said, we will take a call on this matter when the CAP reaches that stage. A section of CBSE school exam pass students from Mumbai have moved the Bombay high court on this issue. We are expecting the courts order by Wednesday.

Magar said, there won’t be any issues regarding the CBSE board exam pass students, who will be allotted seats as part of the CAP. In fact, the board has forwarded the mark sheets of students to our office through the respective schools, which cleared the way for the release of the provisional merit list.
In all 5,025 students have applied for the bifocal seats against an availability of 4,875 seats declared under the CAP. The state government has sanctioned 700 more bifocal seats at nine junior colleges in Pune district including 600 in Pune city alone but, all these new seats will be filled at the institute level after the CAP is over.
