Over 43k forms distributed on Day 1
The distribution of forms for the Std XI centralised admission
process (CAP) for 160 junior colleges in the city and Pimpri-Chinchwad got off to
a brisk start on Tuesday 28th June.
As many as 43,308 forms were sold from the various centers, designated for the purpose,
on Day 1 of the process, said officials at the Fergusson college centre, which is
the main coordinating institution for Std XI CAP 2011-12.
Another 908 forms were procured by ICSE students, for whom the CAP committee has
made independent arrangements for sale and submission of forms at the Marathwada
Mitra Mandal College of Commerce.
Chairman of the CAP committee and deputy director (education) Sunil Magar had announced
the admission schedule on June 24.
The panel has declared an overall availability of 63,380 seats which includes 4,875
seats for bifocal courses. Counseling based table-round allotment of seats for the
bifocal courses is to begin from July 8 at the Fergusson college centre.
Later, the focus will shift to arts, science and commerce seat allotments from July
21, when the first list is to be declared.
Stream-wise, there are around 20,965 seats available for the science stream, which
is up by 2,430 seats compared to last years 18,535 seats.
In fact, the government had to sanction additional divisions for the science stream
to accommodate the 1,483 surplus admissions, which were effected through the CAP
last year.
A division refers to 120 seats for the higher secondary school attached to a senior
college or 80 seats for the school attached to a secondary school. The enhancement
of science seats this year has been effected by taking into account last years experience.
A total of 26,380 seats are available for commerce (English as well as Marathi medium)
which is 2,200 seats more than last years 24,180 seats. In all, 2,341 commerce stream
seats had remained vacant last year.
The situation was worst for the arts stream last year, when 8,860 of the total 11,020
seats remained vacant. This year, the availability of seats for arts (Marathi medium)
is unchanged at 8,040, but availability of arts (English medium) seats has gone
up from 2,980 to 3,420.
