It will have 25 multiple-choice questions of one mark each, plus five marks for
viva voce
The March 2012 exams will be a different affair for visually
impaired students in standard eleven in Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE)
schools.
For the first time, CBSE will introduce an alternative question paper for the visually
impaired students taking practical exams in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.
According to a circular issued by CBSE education officer Dr. Sreejita Das to all
schools, the question paper will have 25 multiple choice questions (MCQs) of one
mark each and five marks for viva voce.
No Practical Record:
Duration of the exam will be one hour 30 minutes. Candidates will not be required
to submit any practical record file at the time of practical examination. Questions
will be based on the knowledge acquired in the laboratory and understanding of the
concepts.
The circular said: Only the basic details of chemicals, apparatus and theory involved
would be included in the MCQs. Some of the questions can be based on day to day
life experiences while quantitative calculations would be assessed in such a way
that the student is able to do orally. According to Das, the alternate question
paper will aid the upward mobility of visually impaired students. Alternative question
paper for CBSE standard 12 will be introduced in March 2013.
M Srinivasan, chairman of Gear Innovative School situated in Doddakannelli on Sarjapur
Road, said, This is a very good move which will help the visually challenged students
in a big way. It will boost their confidence.
Challenging Task:
Rajesh Chandra, a visually impaired student, welcomed the alternative question paper.
He said, Till now, we used to take the help of a scribe to write exams. But, doing
experiments on par with other students was a challenging task. The alternative question
paper will certainly help. We will be able to answer the questions quickly as the
question paper will consist of objective types.
