Scholarships to Nine Indian Students to Study Abroad
Educational Testing Service (ETS), an educational assessment
organisation, has awarded scholarships to nine Indian students to study abroad.
Out of the nine, two students from Mumbai won the grant.
Omkar Deshmukh from Thane and Naveed Kanjiyam from Santa Cruz are the two students
who received ETS scholarships worth USD 10,000 and USD 5,000 respectively. Deshmukh,
an IIT-B graduate, with the help of this scholarship will pursue masters in computer
science from McGill University, Canada. Kanjuyam, on the other hand, a Poddar International
School student, has cleared his level A examination from the IB board and will go
to University of Toranto to study engineering.
With the popularity of TOEFL and GRE tests, ETS hopes to continue the scholarships.
"Though we have not decided whether it is going to be an annual process, the plans
for next year will be decided soon," said Dr. Walt MacDonald, chief operating officer
for ETS.
Chuck Melley, executive director of Government and External Relation,
ETS said, "After a rigorous selection process, nine students were selected from
655 applications that we received." The next year's process for scholarship application
is likely to start from end of September 2011.
