Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination 2012 and Higher Secondary Certificate
(HSC) Examination 2012 Time Table
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary
Education on Friday 1st July, declared the timetable for the 2012 secondary school
certificate (SSC, Standard X) and higher secondary certificate (HSC, Standard XII)
examinations.
This is for the first time that the board has declared the timetable well in advance,
almost at the start of the academic year. As per the timetable, the SSC exam will
be held from March 1, 2012, while the HSC exam will commence from February 21, 2012.

A detailed timetable of both the examinations was posted on the Maharashtra State
Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education website,
msbshse.ac.in, at 11.00
am on Friday 1st July. Board officials earlier, when the 2010-11 HSC results were
announced, had said that they were exploring the possibility of announcing the timetable
for the exams a year in advance. The idea was to help students organize their study
schedule for the examinations. This year’s students can take the benefit from RTI
and check their
answer sheets. That mean now Students have every right to know where they
went wrong and how they were marked.
Board chairperson Ujjwaladevi Patil said, the students will be in a better position
to plan their studies for the all-important examinations. It will reduce pressure
on students as they will now know exactly how much time they have to prepare for
every subject. Also, with the exam dates being announced well in advance, teachers
will be able to plan their syllabus accordingly, Patil said.
The SSC examination begins with first, second and third language papers in two sessions
and the first session is scheduled at 11.00 am, while the second will begin at 3.00
pm. The HSC examination also begins with the English language paper.
Symbiosis school principal Leena Chaudhari, who was surprised by the board’s move
of announcing the timetable now, said, both the examinations are important for students.
So, planning well for the most crucial years of their career will now be possible.
Definitely, this is an encouraging move by the board.
Shailaja Sontakke, principal, Huzurpaga High School, however, had a different take.
She said, the board’s intention is to help students to prepare for the exams well
in advance, but I am not sure how fruitful it will be. The examination atmosphere
builds up around February, so it is ideal to declare the dates at that time. Announcing
the dates so early could give more time to people who are engaged in exam malpractices.
Pranav Phatak, a Std X student of Bal Shikshan Mandir, said, As the examination
approaches, tension builds up, especially for subjects like history and geography
as the notes are extensive. But now, we know exactly how much time is available
to prepare for the examinations.
