Vijayawada Students Emerge Top in Engg. & Medicine
Over three lakh students qualified in Eamcet-2011,
the results of which were released on Wednesday. In medical stream, 55,995 students
cracked the exam and in engineering, a total of 2.2 lakh students qualified. N Pratyush (Vijayawadass), N Prasanth (Vizag) and C Sasank
(Vijayawada) bagged the top marks in engineering, scoring 155 out of 159
marks. The medicine topper M Himaja (Vijayawada) scored 158 out of 159 marks.
Top scorers from Hyderabad include A Surya Kiran, V Nageswara Rao and M Rama Linga
Reddy who secured 153 marks in engineering and G Shiva Jaswanth who secured 154
marks in medicine.
Ironically, most toppers from both the streams would not be taking admission in state
colleges as they have already cracked national level entrances including
IIT-JEE, AIEEE, JIPMER and AIIMS.
Like in 2010, this year to the overall pass percentage in both engineering and
medical streams remained over 80%. While engineering stream recorded a pass percentage
of 82.54, in medicine the pass percentage was 85.18. Among the districts, Vijayawada
secured the highest pass percentage in engineering (89.62) and medical streams (94.16).
Hyderabad secured a pass percentage of 83.89 in engineering and 86.91 in medicine.
In medicine about 50% of the ranks were secured by girls while boys secured the
highest pass percentage in engineering.
However, not all students who qualified Eamcet will be eligible to take admission
in engineering, medical and dental colleges. As per the directions of All India Council
of Technical Education (AICTE) and Medical Council of India (MCI) only students
who secure a minimum of 50% marks in intermediate would be eligible for admission.
MCI rules also state that students should also secure 50% marks in Eamcet to be
eligible for admissions to medical colleges. Going by the Inter result scores, just
about 7,500 students out of the 55,995 who qualified medical stream of Eamcet will
be eligible for medical and dental admissions this year. Others will have to opt
for paramedical courses.
In engineering, 25,000 students out of 2.22 lakh who cracked the exam
will not be eligible for admissions if AICTE rules are implemented. The state government
is yet to issue a go implementing the AICTE rules.
