Public Relation (PR) is a profession that involves
promotion intended to create goodwill for a person or an organization. The public
relation course teaches the students how to react, talk and move the mass with their
opinion. The ways to interact with public over an issue and satisfying them with
your activities and explanation is taught under Public relations.
It is basically about maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship with internal
and external public with whom an organization is always connected. Public relations
include monitoring and evaluation of attitudes of both internal and external public.
Internal public includes the employees and opinion leaders of an organization whereas
external public include shareholders, suppliers, consumers, Government and the media.
Today, there are various PR courses offered by a number of institutes in India.
Certain institutes admit the students on the basis of entrance tests conducted by
them while others completely rely on merit.

Eligibility Criteria:
One needs to be at least 10 + 2 passed in order
to be eligible for a bachelor course in P.R. The 10 + 2 passing certificate should
be of a recognized educational board in India. Final year students can also apply.
For admission to a post graduate program in P.R., students should have completed
their graduation in any discipline from a recognised university. The final year
students can also apply.
Candidates with a bachelor's degree, preferably with a background of social sciences
or humanities can opt for the course.
Course Outlook:
The bachelor level course duration is generally three years whereas the post graduate
program is for two years.
There are a few colleges and universities that differ in the course duration. At
some places the course is for 1 year only. Apart from the degree course, short term
certificate courses are also available.
Job Prospects:
After successful completion of the degree course, the candidates can get absorbed
by the MNCs and Public Sector Firms as Public Relation Managers/Officers.
