The popular postgraduate diploma in computer application
(PGDCA) offered by the department of computer science, Delhi University,
will now be of one-year duration. According to sources, this was done as the MCA
programme is of two years duration and the faculty members felt that it made little
sense that students should spend 18 months on a diploma course.
This diploma course was introduced in 1991 and was a one-year course till 1999.
In 1999, the duration of the course was extended to 18 months and has remained so
till 2011. From this academic year, it will again become a one-year course.
According to the head of the department of computer science, Dr. Neelima Gupta, The
committee of courses, the department and the faculty of mathematical sciences have
approved the change in the duration and the matter is going to be placed before
the academic council (AC) for the final approval.
The course is offered in four colleges Acharya Narendra Dev
College, Kalkaji; Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Karampura; Keshav Mahavidyalya,
Rani Bagh; and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Vivek Vihar.
There are a total of 124 seats on offer.
Apart from the duration, the course structure is also under revision and is awaiting
the ACs approval. Another change made in the course is the introduction of additional
