The Comed-K to re-do the Counselling
The high court on Wednesday issued notices to the director
of medical education, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Consortium of
Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K) and the
principal secretary of the department of health and family welfare over a petition
filed by the Karnataka Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association seeking the
quashing of seat matrix dated April 14 and 15, 2011.
A division bench headed by justice Manjula Chellur issued the notices.
The petitioners sought a direction from the high court for quashing the seat matrix
prepared by the director of medical education. The seats to be filled were related
to postgraduate courses in the member institutions of the petitioner's association.
The petitioners further asked the court for directing the Comed-K to re-do the counselling
according to the seat matrix prepared by them in consultation with their member
institutions.
They contended that the seat matrix was arbitrary and illegal. The director of medical
education had no authority to interfere with admission process of the institutions.
They also contended that the member institutions had already made admissions under
the NRI and management quota.
