University authorities have recorded cases of fake certificates, submitted by students
Delhi University’s (DU) admission process for candidates
belonging to the OBC category, under the fifth cut-off list comes to a close on
Tuesday, 19th July 2011. However, University authorities have recorded cases of
fake certificates, submitted by students in order to gain admission in a course
and college of their choice.
He DU Proctor’s office, which has been on tenterhooks following the fake caste certificate
scam, has recorded complaints from some colleges, challenging the OBC certificates
submitted by a few students at the time of admission. “We have received about four
complaints from college authorities, raising doubts about the authenticity of these
certificates. One such complaint was recorded for a student who claimed to be from
Assam. We have sent his documents to Tinsukhia (Assam) for verification,” said HP
Singh, Proctor, Delhi University.
The University has, in the meantime, decided to put the admission process of these
students on hold, till verification is complete. “Since colleges have questioned
the authenticity of the certificates submitted by the student, we have put the admission
of these students on hold. If the documents are genuine, they will be cleared and
if not, then their admission will stand cancelled. Admission provided, therefore,
is on a provisional basis, subject to verification,” added Singh.
The Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare has also taken stock of the situation
and decided to conduct a check on these students.
“Once admission is over, we pick out students based on a method of random
sampling. Thereafter, strict verification will be undertaken, which will check certificates
submitted by the students of the OBC category,” said Singh.
