Nursing is a noble profession that deals with care of sick and ailing patients. It is a combination of taking care of sick people and involves science of health care. Nursing is the largest occupation in the health care sector. Nurses have to work in departments like general ward to operating theatres. In India nursing course is generally chosen by women. The duties and responsibilities of nurses depend on their qualification and work experience. At the initial level they have to work for the bedside patients while at senior level they are required to manage special group of people like psychiatric, paediatric, intensive care patients etc. which require specialized skills. Their other duties involve dispensing medication, keeping records of the patient’s progress, setting up and operating medical equipment, administration and several other routine jobs.

Nursing Course Details:


Fee Structure: The fee of the nursing program is Rs. 50,000 for a degree course and Rs. 25,000 for a diploma course.

Duration: The duration of the Nursing training course varies from 1 year to 4 years depending upon whether the course is degree or diploma.

Syllabus: Nursing Foundation, Applied Sciences, Maternal Nursing, Communicative English, Behavioural Sciences etc.

Eligibility for Nursing Course:

Lot of schools and colleges in India provide diploma, graduate and post graduate courses in Nursing. For a B.Sc in nursing training course you have to be 10+2 pass with minimum 55% in PCMB. Candidates who wish to apply for nursing courses should pass their S.S.L.C exam or equivalent examination. Nurses training include theory and practical sessions. The introductory courses familiarize students with the basics of nursing whereas the master degree helps them in specializing in the field of their choice. After completing a course, nurses must register with the organization for registration of nurses present in every state.

Nursing Institutions in the first world countries have a growing demand for nurses. Likewise they have the capacity to provide the wage premium to their nurses since the government is providing assistance. Wage premium is one of the forces that affect the demand for nurses.
The growth of scientific and medical research, rapid technological progress, subsequent growth and development of nursing knowledge and skills. This has caused the proliferation of nurses.

Remuneration:

Nurses get paid according to seniority level they have in the organization. Nurses employed by government hospitals receive a monthly salary of Rs. 10, 000 to Rs. 12, 000. Those working for private hospitals or the military receive a slightly higher remuneration. In the government hospitals, the government gives certain allowances like uniform allowance, house rent allowance, washing allowance, government quarters and free medical treatment. In the private sector, the remuneration is at times lower than that offered in government organizations. Once a Nurse gets specialized in a particular field, the salary of nurse increases with experience.
