Half-Year Delay in the Results of Postgraduate Examinations

No Result in BU

Third-semester examinations for many postgraduate courses of Bangalore University (BU) were held in January and February this year. Half a year later, students still wait for the results of those examinations.

Meanwhile, the fourth-semester examinations are set to begin from June 15. What that means is that students have had little occasion to learn what they could have done better, this time.
BU created history of sorts by announcing the results of undergraduate courses just three weeks after examinations were held.
But as the university administration concentrated on getting the results of undergraduate programmes out, postgraduate examination scripts were neglected.

T.R. Subramanya, registrar, examinations, said, "Undergraduate results are important, as admission for postgraduate courses begins soon afterwards, and we have to evaluate nearly 22 lakh scripts." Asked about the half-year delay in the results of postgraduate examinations, the registrar, examinations said that the person to be contacted in this regard is Nadagouda, special officer, postgraduate examinations.
Nadagouda, attempting to throw light on the reasons for the delay, said, "The procedure of evaluation of postgraduate scripts is different from that of the undergraduate ones. For students in the Masters' programmes, they need to get evaluators from outside the university, as there is also external valuation. It is true that results of some courses have still to be announced, but these will be out in a matter of two or three days."

Nadagouda also mentioned confusion over whether grace marks were to be awarded to students. He said that the resolution of the academic council meeting on Wednesday, 22nd June 2011 had clarified questions in that regard.
The special officer for postgraduate programmes mentioned that results of only one or two courses were pending. Students, however, maintained that results of examinations in M.A History, M.A Political Science, M.A English and M.A History and Humanities have still to be declared, for which examinations were held in January/February 2011.
