The decision is expected to receive the VC’s approval in the meeting of the university’s
working council scheduled for July 15.
It is almost certain that the Barkatullah University from
Bhopal will stop offering B.Ed course from this year. B.Ed course is
offered in the university as a self-financing course. There are 100 seats for
the course in the university and the fee is about Rs. 25,000. The National Council
for Technical Education had ordered Barkatullah University to ensure that the staff
and infrastructure required to offer the course were all available in the university.
The university authorities, however, believe that offering the course in not profitable
and it would make better sense to scrap the course altogether.
The university will have to spend an extra Rs. 5 lakh to offer the course and therefore
the administration is planning to stop the course from this year.
