Nirma University is to be the nodal agency for training faculties of Civil Engineering
institutes across the state
NU Institute of Technology (NUIT), Dr. Paresh H Shah who has
recently compiled a booklet on green buildings. Dr. Shah said, "Owing to
workshops we have held on green ratings, certifications and the green building concept
and construction, it was suggested that we become the nodal agency. However, talks
are still on with Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and The Energy and
Resources Institute (TERI)."
"In 2007, we had organised a national seminar on advances in building management
systems where one of the themes covered was green buildings. For this seminar, besides,
MNRE and TERI, Gujarat Council of Science and Technology (GUJCOST) also took part.
It was their advisor, Dr. A. M. Prabhakar, who suggested that we compile a booklet on
green buildings. Later, other bodies suggested that we become the nodal agency as
well," added Shah.
For the compilation of this booklet, NUIT received a grant of Rs. 3.5 lakh from GUJCOST
and work began over a year ago. Dr. Shah said, "We will be launching 1,000 booklets
of 200 pages for the stakeholders of the civil engineering industry such as builders,
contractors, material manufacturers, architects, academicians and others."
