NIFT Entrance Exam 2012

National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the premier Institute of Design, Management and Technology, for developing young professionals to face the tough challenges in fashion business in the emerging global scenario. The elite Institute is into imparting fashion business education in the country through a network of seven professionally managed centres at Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Fashion Technology has emerged as a viable career option for a large number youngster in the recent years and the competition to get into the best fashion design institutes in India is very high.

  • Bachelor Programs (B.F.Tech.) Design:
    • Fashion Design.
    • Leather Design.
    • Accessory Design.
    • Textile Design.
    • Knitwear Design.
    • Communication Design.
    • Apparel Production.
  • Master Programs in NIFT 2012:
    • M.Des. (Design).
    • M.F.M. (Fashion Management).
    • M.F.Tech. (Fashion Technology).
Eligibility for NIFT Entrance Exam 2012:
  • NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Bachelor Programs – Design :
  • B.Design (Fashion Design/ Leather Design/ Accessory Design/ Textile Design/ Knitwear Design/ Fashion Communication)

    The students should meet one of the following criteria:

    • Passed +2 level from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
    • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
    • Any Public School/ Board/ University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
    • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
    • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
    Please note that the upper age limit for applying in bachelor Programs is restricted to 23 years as on 1st November, 2010.
  • NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Bachelor Program – Technology:
  • B.F Tech. (Apparel Production)

    The students should meet one of the following criteria:

    • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
    • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
    • Any Public School/ Board/ University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
    • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
    • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education (Engineering background).
    • Candidate must be pass in Physics, Chemistry & Maths.
  • NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Master Program – Management:
  • M.F.M. (Master of Fashion Management)
    • Undergraduate Degree From any Institutes/ University recognized by law in India or
    • Undergraduate diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/ NID.
M.F Tech. (Master of Fashion Technology)
  • B.F.Tech
  • B.E./ B. Tech. From any institute/ university recognized by law in India.
M.Des. (Master of Design)
  • Undergraduate Degree from any institute/ university recognized by law in India.
  • Diploma in UG design from NIFT/ NID only.

Design space is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design and presupposes that candidate would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of programme. NIFT Programme would not provide any basic knowledge and skill development in design as a part of master programme.

Admission process for National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT):

Candidates will first be shortlisted on the basis of the written examination. After that shortlisted candidates will be called for Situation Tests, Interview and General Discussions. Written test will be on the basis of the programme a candidate has applied for. Written test is meant to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programme they have applied. Reservation:

The seats reserved for SC/ ST /Physically Handicapped Candidates (PHP) /Foreign Nationals/ SAARC/ NRI, in each programme are as under:

  • SC - 15%
  • ST - 7.5%
  • OBC - 27%
  • Physically Handicapped (with 40% or more disability) - 3% Horizontal reservation for physically handicapped candidates cutting across all sections including SC’s, ST’s and the Other Backward Classes and the non-reserved category. Centres and programmes will be allotted on rotation, at the discretion of NIFT.
  • Foreign Nationals/ SAARC/ NRI - 15% (supernumerary).
  • State Domiciles - 20% (supernumerary).
