Police on lookout for clerk who Duped students and catch hold the deceiver
Is another fake admission scam surfacing at MS University's
Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE), Sources have informed TOI that Raopura
police has started investigating a scam in which some students were allegedly duped
by collecting lakhs of rupees from them promising them admission at FTE.
Although Raopura police is tight-lipped about this, MSU officials confirm that the
police had approached FTEs dean professor Ambikanandan Misra on 16th Monday, evening
seeking details from the faculty. A particular complaint with which the police had
approached Misra was regarding a boy being duped of
3 lakh promising him admission at the faculty.
The police had sought details of an employee named Kanu Patel. MSU officials say
that Patel, a non-teaching staff member at Oriental Institute, now works as clerk
at university’s Experimental School. His wife works with the ADE section at MSUs
head office. While confirming that the cops had approached him, Misra told TOI that
the cops had shown him a complaint in which it was mentioned that a boy was duped
under the pretext of giving admission at the faculty. We informed them that admissions
at our faculty are done by the state-level admission committee for professional
courses (ACPC). Also, Patel is not an employee of our faculty, said Misra. MSU vice-chancellor
professor, Yogesh Singh has assured that once he gets a complete report about the
allegations, he will take action against the employee.
Ironically, Raopura police inspector, B.M Chaudhary feigned ignorance about the
matter. I am not aware of any such investigations. If the police visited the campus,
it must be a routine affair, he claimed. “What is shocking is that fact that complaints
of such bogus admissions are surfacing even a year after the bogus admission scam
that had rocked FTE last year”. The bogus admission scam that had surfaced last
year had revealed involvement of government-nominated senate member Kamlesh Mehta,
who was working as clerk at FTE. The investigations at that point of time had revealed
that on the basis of fake identity cards and fake fee slips, two accused Hemant
Zhala and Mitesh Patel had duped
7 lakh each from a large number of students promising them admissions in the faculty.
The accused had named Mehta, for being mastermind of the scam. The state government
had later suspended Mehta from university’s senate.
