This year, the admission volunteer count is twice last year's
Delhi University is gearing up for its new admission process,
and with more force than ever. Keeping in mind the new procedures, college
student unions are armed with almost double the number of volunteers and information
helpdesks they had last year.
"Since the entire admission process begins on June 15 itself, we expect huge footfall
in the first three days," says Gaurav Aggarwal, a student's union member of the
Shri Ram College of Commerce.
"Last year, we had five information desks. However, this year, we plan to have about
10-12 with two-three volunteers each," he adds. The colleges are anticipating chaos
on the first day of admission. "With an admission committee in place and our core
volunteer team of 35 volunteers, we would be able to manage the situation," says
a member of the student union of Lady Shri Ram College for Women.
"We would also have department volunteers," she adds. "Volunteers from
NSS (National Service Scheme) and NCC (National Cadet Corps) will be
on duty during the admission time. We plan to have helpdesks all around college.
Around 810 volunteers will be on duty each day on rotational basis," says Sachin
Sharma, president of the student union at Hansraj. "We have increased the number
of volunteers this year. Around 2030 volunteers will be on duty each day," says
Geetesh Nirban, media spokesman for Kamala Nehru College." Since it's the first
time, we want to be prepared for the worst," says Sumakshi Gupta of Institute of
Home Economics.
