Master of Personnel Management Course Details
MPM is a master degree management
course. With MPM, you can specialize in Human Resource (HR). This is
a bit different than
MBA course where you can specialize in any field like MBA in finance, MBA in
HR or MBA in Marketing. There is no chance of changing lines to any other field
if you have specialized in MPM.
Eligibility:
Any graduate with 45% marks or those who are appearing for their final year
degree examination in any discipline of a recognised university can go for master
degree course in personnel management.
Scope of Personnel
Management: The scope of personnel management
was very limited prior to the 20th century. However, in the organised sector today,
human resource has proved to be a vitally competitive factor. The functions of human
resource development and human management need high professional skills. The large
scale business operations have resulted in the specialisation of all business activities.
On the other hand, labour unions are also the result of growth in the size of industrial organisations.
Dealing with the problems of work force requires specialised knowledge. It is not
unusual to find a separate department for tackling all the ‘people’ problems in
the organisation.
Personnel management covers four types of functions:
- Advisory function: Establish good relations between management and employees.
- Management function: Recruitment, training, education, etc. of personnel.
- Administrative function: Covers major administrative matters.
- Workers Welfare: Pay attention to workers' physical and mental health and their
social and economic well being.
Career Options:
After doing your MPM course you can work as a HR manager in any firm.
Remuneration:
MPM graduates get Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 as professional starter. As they
become experienced they can get Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000.
