Many Students have passed their Senior Secondary Exams
The admission process for post-class X diploma courses got
over as a merit list with names of 1.1 lakh students was declared on Tuesday, 21st
June 2011. There has been a sharp rise in the number of students who
have applied for polytechnic courses this year. While 97,000 students applied for
diploma course after class X in 2010, this year the applications were close to 1.1
lakh.
The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) website which posted the merit list for
polytechnic courses had technical errors due to the rush of students checking the
list.
There are 45,610 polytechnic seats in Gujarat for 10 diploma courses. 1.15 lakh
booklets were sold off the counter this year from various bank counters from June
3 to 15. GTU officials said that students would have to confirm their choices online
for the last time from June 23 to 30. On June 25, a provisional merit list would
be brought out.
Compared to last year, many students have passed their senior secondary exams this
year. Besides, a large number of students who failed in class XII have also applied
for these diploma courses as it would be easier to apply for degree courses without
wasting a year, said an education department official.
