All India Entrance Test in Medical and Engineering by 2013

MBBS Aspirants take a Single Entrance Test

Students, who are currently in class XI, may have to appear for a single all India entrance test in medical and engineering in 2013. The Supreme Court has proposed that a single medical entrance exam be conducted for students who want to pursue MBBS. This announcement has left parents and children of class XI science worried.

At present, students appear for the Maharashtra State's common entrance test (MHT-CET) for medical and engineering courses in the Maharashtra state, conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research. The syllabus for this test is based on the class XII HSC board syllabus.
Many students and parents have been wanted to get some concrete answers about the single entrance test. The syllabus of this single medical and engineering entrance test is likely to be identical to the class XI and XII curriculum. Therefore, students should start their entrance exam preparation in class XI itself. A systematic and focused approach, will alone help students to tackle the eventuality of a single engineering/ medical entrance exam, says Namrata Deshpande, director, Vidyalankar, an institute which prepares students for engineering and medical entrance exams.
Tanay Shah of a class XI wishes to join a government medical college in Mumbai, after class XII. He says, I will have to start preparing for the proposed single all India medical entrance test from class XI onwards. Only then will I be able to perform well. Pooja Prabhu, studying in class XI, says, for the next two years, I want to focus on my engineering entrance exam completely, because a high CET score will help me get admission into a good engineering college in Mumbai.

Our faculty and systems are geared up to train students in such a manner, that they are ready to take on any change in the existing pattern of the medical and engineering entrance exam, says Deshpande. She also cautions parents and students when she says, Students join some institute or another for their XI, XII and CET training. Although many coaching institutes provide training for XI and XII, very few have the expertise to train students effectively for engineering and medical entrance exams.
The faculty for engineering and medical entrance exams should be able to build the students concepts and teach them to tackle problems in the shortest possible manner using elimination techniques and short-cut methods. This aspect assumes greater importance now, that there is a possibility of a single all India entrance test being conducted in the near future.
