Law is a system of rules, usually enforced through
a set of institutions. It shapes politics, economics and society in numerous ways
and serves as the foremost social mediator in relations between people. Lawyers
counsel clients about their legal rights and suggest course of action in a particular
matter. They also advise clients and draw up legal documents, such as wills and
contracts and conduct negotiations on legal matters, and may represent clients in
court and tribunal proceedings.
BDS Course Details:
Fee Structure: Fee for law students is around
Rs. 25,000.
Duration: Duration for the course is 2 years.
Syllabus: Law includes subjects like Jurisprudence,
Constitutional Law of India, International Law, Torts, Criminal Law, Law of Contract
etc
Different Streams of Law:
1. Criminal law: Also known as penal law, pertains
to crime and punishment
2. Contract Law: Contract law concerns enforceable
promises and can be summed up in the Latin phrase Pacta Sunt Servanda (agreements
must be kept).
3. Property Law: Property law governs valuable
things that people call 'theirs'. Real property, sometimes called 'real estate'
refers to ownership of land and things attached to it.
4. Labor Law: Labour law is the study of tripartite
industrial relationship between worker, employer and trade union.
5. Company law: Company law sprang from the law
of trusts, on the principle of separating ownership of property and control.
6. Commercial Law: Commercial law covers complex
contract and property law.
Eligibility for Law Course:
A candidate has to appear for CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) or CET (Common Entrance
Test) after 10th standard. Candidates with 55 % marks in Arts, Commerce or Science
can appear for the entrance examination.
Career Options & Scope:
Legal Profession is an old and most respected profession and will never go out of
practice. Law is considered as the fourth pillar of democracy and it gives a lot
of faith to the citizens. They can depend on law if they have any disputes. Lawyers
are held in high esteem in our society and there remains the faith that when all

government, as legal advisor in various companies, business houses, organisations
etc.
Remuneration:
In the government sector, the salary scale starts at Rs. 6500 and goes up to Rs.
10,500. The private legal practitioners earn a handsome salary. Lawyers have to
work very hard and sometimes away from home therefore their family life suffers.
Finding employment is not an easy task for the lawyer.
