Late Result may Cost Students a Semester

Late result may cost students a semester

Following the delay in announcing PGCET results, Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association has shot off a letter to the minister for higher education seeking intervention for the same.

The entrance exam that holds the key to the MBA, MCA and M.Tech seats in the state was held on August 7 this year. The association points out that the classes usually start by September first week, but this time even the results are yet not out and the long process of counselling is to follow.
For the first time, it was Karnataka Examination Authority who has conducted the entrance exam and not Visvesvaraya Technical University as in the earlier years.

The letter written on Tuesday states that normally the counselling takes one month and the way it’s progressing, it appears like one precious semester will be lost. The association fears that the delay will make students look for other options, and worse still, opt for seats at colleges in other states.

Admissions for different PG courses in other universities have already commenced and a lot of students are joining management quota seats by paying a hefty sum as fees. Colleges offering the PG courses are finding it difficult to keep management quota students in waiting as they cannot commence classes, M. Prakash, secretary of the association, explained in the letter.

The delay also means students are yet to confirm their choices. Many are not confirming the seats as they are waiting for the results. Outstation students are also inconvenienced as the academic calender is yet to be issued, he added.
The one-month delay has put around 30, 000 students future at stake. KEA officials informed that the date for results has not been fixed but is expected in the first week of September
