Education Department relaxes norm, students can list 17 colleges instead of 35 for admissions

junior college

It's good news for students seeking junior college admission in a particular region.
The education department has relaxed the mandatory condition on students to choose 35 college preferences, allowing them to select only 17 to successfully complete their online admission forms.
"This is applicable only for those students who are not interested in moving out of a particular zone. And if the zone does not provide 35 college options, after filling in 15 compulsory college preferences in the MMR region column, just 2 to 3 college preferences are enough for the Zone column. The Ward column can be left empty. Even such forms will be accepted as completed forms," said an official from the education department on the condition of anonymity.
In the past few weeks, the department has received several complaints from anxious parents regarding non-availability of 35 junior colleges in their preferred regions.
The official said, "While it was made clear that 35 college preferences are mandatory to successfully complete the online admission form, there are some applicants who want admission to junior colleges in their residential locality in most cases. Under such conditions, there aren't always 35 college options. Hence it has been decided to relax the norm for such students."
These students however, have to compulsorily give 15 college preferences in the MMR column of the option form, which will be from the specific zone. After filling in these colleges in the MMR column, if there are no college options left to fill in the Zone column of the option form, students can list two to three colleges from a nearby locality. After this, the Ward column can be kept empty. "Such forms will be accepted with the consideration that the applicant does not want to move out of the zone of his/her convenience," said the official.
Avinash S, a parent whose daughter is seeking admission into a junior college, explained, "I am not willing to send my daughter very far for junior college studies. It would be better if she gets into a college near our locality that is the Vasai-Virar region. However, with the compulsory 35 college preference rule, we were sure that some out-of-region colleges would have to be mentioned to complete the form. This would have invited chances of getting admission into a faraway college. But now we are glad to know we can do away with it."
