Under the Scanner Up Government to Review Subsidised Allotment of Land to Private
Institutions
Despite concessions, these institutions have been charging
heavy fee from students. In a communication to the development authorities and housing
board establishment in Uttar Pradesh, government officials in Lucknow have decided
to review the land allotment concessions to private educational and medical institutions.
In this context, the officials of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) received
a communication to attend a review meeting to be held on August 3 at Lucknow.
In their communication, the officials have specifically mentioned that the matter
of granting land allotment concessions to these institutions needs to be reviewed
as they were found charging exorbitant fees and charges even after receiving land
at a concession.
“The meeting has been called to review the concession rate.
The outcome of the meeting would decide whether the concession rate needs to be
decreased, scrapped or reviewed with stricter terms, “said Narendra Kumar Chaudhary,
vice-chairman, Ghaziabad Development Authority.
As per present norms, any such institution is allowed allotment of land at only
40% price of the sector rate of the area.
“Despite heavy concessions, the institutions have been in dock for charging
heavy fee from students. They seldom follow the government orders for allowing concessions
to below poverty line (BPL) students. Their concessions need to be scrapped at the
earliest and previous allottees should be dealt with strictly to follow norms laid
during their concessional allotments, “said Sachin Soni, a social worker and RTI
activist.
