It’s difficult for Indian to get employed in US, UK and other European countries
after their graduation because of less employment.
Indian students graduating from western and European universities
are returning home in droves as job prospects in the US, UK and other European countries
are bleak. There are also apprehensions that the new visa norms coming
into force in the UK in April will make it more difficult for foreign students to
look for employment after they graduate. Earlier, most Indian students who studied
abroad would routinely work there for a couple of years before returning home or
pursuing higher studies. Some would stay back permanently. A work stint overseas
was important for many to repay their expensive education loans.
The scene is very different today. The lack of jobs in these markets makes it difficult
to stay on. Many universities are also discouraging students from staying on in
the country after graduation. Hema Ravichandar, an education and HR expert says:
Both under-grad and post-grad students had a longer window of stay in the US, UK
and elsewhere in Europe. Student visa rules are also changing. Therefore, the size
of the windows will get smaller. When locals are not finding jobs, how will Indian
students get any Kris Lakshmikanth, CEO of recruitment firm The Head Hunters India,
says he receives CVs from at least 10 students a week.
