An increase in the intake capacity of self-financed courses

The third list of ongoing degree admissions was out on Monday 27th June, freezing cut-offs in the city's well-known colleges at a very high level and out of reach for average students.

In response to this, the city's top rung colleges have decided to request an increase in the intake capacity of self-financed courses in a letter to the varsity. If approved, students can expect a maximum 10% individual increase in the seats of each such courses in different colleges.

Dr. TA Shivare, principal of Hinduja College said, "With 10% increase, a class of 60 will start having 66 students which can certainly be managed with existing infrastructure and available faculty. This will help those students who have been unable to get a seat in a college of their choice and have to compromise with colleges which do not provide up-to-the-mark services."

Shivare continued, "Colleges have asked for an increase in the intake capacity in the past and the University has usually granted us permission. Hence we are hopeful to give students some good news this year. However, we will request the varsity to give their decision immediately so we don't have to keep students in a state of confusion."

Rajan Welukar, vice chancellor of Mumbai University, said, "First, data of such colleges who are asking for an increase in intake has to come to the varsity. Then, considering the demand for these courses, the university will take a decision."
