IIT Roorkee was established with the mission to create an
environment that shall foster the growth of intellectually capable, innovative and
entrepreneurial professionals, who shall contribute to the growth of Science and
Technology. It is the foremost institute of national importance in higher technological
education. It was initially established as Thomson College of Civil Engineering
in the year 1847. In the year 1949 it was given the status of University and was
named as University of Roorkee. In the year 2001 it was declared Indian Institute
of Technology through an ordinance issued by Government of India.

Technology, Applied Science and Management disciplines. It offers various undergraduate
