IIT-Raj to introduce new BTech course
The Indian Institute of Technology-Rajasthan (IIT-R),
which started imparting technical education in 2008 from IIT-Kanpur campus, will
introduce innovative courses to encourage research work from the next session.
According to sources, IIT-R will introduce 'Systems Sciences' as part of its BTech.
programme. With this, 40 more seats will be made
available for aspirants, taking total intake capacity from 120 seats to 160.
"The curriculum has been independently designed to meet industry requirements in
system integration technology, which has a 'unique' blend of all other technologies.
So that students are trained with various branches of engineering," said Prof Vivek
Vijay, faculty at IIT-R.
"We have conducted numerous brainstorming sessions with visiting faculties from
four universities of Canada along with professors of other IITs of the country,"
Vijay added. He even said students completing the course would get employment opportunities
in various sectors such as Banking, Development & Design and Research etc. Faculties
at the IIT-R, which is operational at MBM Engineering College (Jodhpur), claim that
this would be the first institute of the country to offer such a unique course.
Presently, 360 students are pursuing BTech. course in different three branches of
engineering - computer sciences, mechanical and electrical. At present there are
two centre of excellence at the IIT-R. The systems sciences will be third such centre.
The IIT-R will also offer two MTech. programmes in Energy Sciences and Information
& Communication Technology from next session. 15 aspirants will be given admission
in each of the stream who will have to clear GATE.
