IIMA and Frankfurt Book Fair signed an MoU to continue the management development
programme - a short-term programme on the publishing and media industry
The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) has
become the first B-school in India to start a course on the publishing sector covering
in-depth aspects.
On Tuesday, IIMA and Frankfurt Book Fair signed an MoU to continue the management
development programme - a short-term programme on the publishing and media industry.
Last year they conducted a five-day course.
President and CEO of Frankfurt Book Fair, Juergen Boos and director of German Book
Office, New Delhi chapter, Akshay Pathak, spoke about the challenges the sector
is facing. "There are three main challenges. Lack of education or training for community
members is one. Secondly, there is lack of information - people learn once they
join the sector. And finally, infrastructure and distribution of books is a real
challenge even though retail is picking up," said Pathak.
Librarian at IIMA and also head of National Information Centre on Management (NICMAN)
H Anil Kumar said that last time when they conducted a five-day course, they received
good response.
He said the course covered finance, technology, HR and leadership, among other areas.
"Since, learning method is case study based, capacity of the batch is 30 and fee
structure is Rs. 1.20 lakh for the five-day course," he said.
Pathak said that lately India is emerging as an outsourcing hub for printing as
it is cost-effective. "Countries in America and Africa are outsourcing printing
work even though India's reputation in timely delivery and capacity for volume is
not that high," he said emphasising need for the course in the sector.
