13 IIMs to share admission data to ease pressure on students
The 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will share
admission information among them from this year.
The move aims to ensure
that no seat in the new IIMs remains vacant as well as ease the pressure on students.
The premier B-schools will also post their individual admission criteria in their
websites. These decisions were taken in a meeting of directors of the 13 IIMs with
Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal on Wednesday at New Delhi. The IIMs also agreed to
explore the possibilities of offering academic programmes in areas like health,
education and infrastructure.
In order to build diversity on campus and attract international students without
affecting the national intake, it was decided that IIMs could jointly organize an
international road-show pooling their resources for the purpose of attracting talent.
Reviewing the process of investing greater autonomy on IIMs, the meeting also noted
that the revised Memoranda of Association and Rules of IIM Ahmedabad and Indore
are at the final stage. The meeting also decided that there should be an external
review of each IIM which could be discussed in the IIM-Council every three years.
