IIM-A's top pay touches Rs. 37 L

The highest domestic salary offered to the Postgraduate Programme in Management (PGPM) students for the 2009-11 batch at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) stood at Rs. 37 lakh annually and the lowest at Rs. 8 lakh. The highest international package offered was USD 1.36 lakh annually while the lowest was USD 60,500. IIM-A, for the first time, released an audited report of the final placements. The report, released under the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS) was audited by CRISIL.

The packages are inclusive of long term and performance-linked components. However, these figures leave spaces for some ambiguity as the figures in the case of PGP students have been drawn from the placement data of only 192 students out of a total of 314 students. IIM-A director Samir Barua said, "The rest of the recruiters did not agree with revealing the data of the packages they offered"
The institute's average package stands at Rs. 16.4 lakh this year. Last year, the institute revealed only that it’s average package was Rs. 15 lakh. The fees for the two-year programme stands at Rs. 13.7 lakh.

Over 120 firms participated in the lateral and final placement process across diverse sectors such as banking, financial services and insurance, consumer goods, consulting, information technology, engineering, energy, telecom and real estate among others.
The final placement process, which kicked off on February 12, 2011, saw a number of international offers being made to students. Out of 298 students in PGP graduating in 2011, seven opted out to start their own ventures.

Banking and consulting sectors remained the most sought after sectors this year with 94 job offers made and 93 accepted by the students in the two sectors. Boston Consulting Group and EXL Services were the top recruiters on campus this year with 11 offers each. This was followed by McKinsey and P&G, which made 10 offers each.
For the PGP in Agribusiness Management (ABM), the highest salary was Rs. 16.2 lakh annually while the lowest stood at 7.45 lakh. Of 36 students, 34 opted for placement through the institute. The remaining two were offered international placements in Ethiopia.

The highest salary in the PGPX programme was Rs. 42 lakh annually while the lowest was Rs. 18.4 lakh. Fees for the one year programme are around Rs. 20 lakh. Five PGPX students opted out of the placement to become entrepreneurs.
