IIFT 2011: Toppers tell how to prepare in the right manner:
IIFT entrance exam has recently announced the date for its
entrance exam for admissions 2012. The exam will be held across India at various
test centers on November 27, 2011.
Now there are approximately four months left for the exam. If you are a serious
IIFT aspirant, then you should start your preparation and know the right strategies.
In this
MBAUniverse.com article, the students of IIFT Delhi give you the right preparation
strategy that will lead you to cracking the exam successfully. Preyoshi Ganguly,
Megesh Kumar and Srinivas Raman, three IIFT exam Toppers, tell you about the distinctive
features of the IIFT entrance exam and the preparation strategy for it.
How is IIFT different from other MBA entrance exams?
The major difference between IIFT and the other exams is the section
on General Awareness. "This section often makes the difference between qualifying
and disqualifying," says Preyoshi Ganguly an alumnus of IIFT New Delhi.
Another factor which differentiates the exam is the number of questions. IIFT 2010
paper had 135 questions, compared to IIFT 2009 paper which had 122 questions. On
the other hand, CAT has only 60 questions and XAT 2011 paper had 101 questions.
"IIFT exam paper has two hours and too many questions that tests selection capability
and solving ability. Always a tough one to crack," mentions Srinivas Raman another
student of IIFT.
Preparation strategy for IIFT:
According to the IIFT toppers, there is not much
difference in the preparation strategies between IIFT and other MBA entrance exams
like CAT, XAT, FMS etc. as the sections remain the same as that of Quantitative
Ability, Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning. But the factor
which you should keep in mind while preparing is the speed.
The IIFT toppers mention that speed should be taken highly into consideration as
without speed it will be difficult for you to complete the paper and obtain the
cut off marks. As Srinivas says, "You should be much faster in calculations and
do loads of general reading. Few weeks before IIFT exam, start practicing speed
mathematics."
But accuracy is also equally important along with speed for the IIFT paper. "Focus
more on speed without compromising on the correctness of the answer," advises Magesh.
Another important aspect of the preparation which is separate from the other MBA
entrance exams is the General Awareness section. For this, you can’t prepare at
the last moment, but it is an ongoing process. As Preyoshi says, "Be up to date
with the recent events. Reading newspapers everyday and glancing through a yearbook
should do the trick." Srinivas adds, "Few weeks before IIFT exam, start reading
more into GK perspective."
