Decision taken in view of anomalies found in question papers during ongoing exams
Gujarat University has decided to give grace marks to students
in the first semester of first year in arts, science and commerce undergraduate
courses. The decision was taken in view of discrepancies and anomaly
found in question papers during ongoing examinations. The university had to cancel
an examination of Gujarati, while another exam of history and Indian culture was
delayed by about two hours recently. Vice-Chancellor Parimal Trivedi said confusion
among paper-setters about the new pattern led to some anomalies. Around 32,000 students
are appearing for the first semester examinations all over the state.
Penalty waived off after Apology: V-C
Speaking about the decision to waive off penalty of
5 lakh he had imposed on 10 city colleges for not sending teaching staff as observers
for examination, Dr. Trivedi said, he did this after the principals handed over
a written apology. The principals assured the university that they will send observers
who can help conduct exams. However, most principals claimed they never submitted
a written apology, though they did assure the VC they would send observers for exams.
