There is no ST population in Delhi
Delhi cabinet on Monday approved the proposal to increase
OBC reservations in higher education institutes from the existing 15% to 21%. A
government official said they have also decided to increase the number of seats
in its higher educational institutes by 12%. With this increase, the combined percentage
of reservation of seats has now gone up to 39%.
As there is no ST population in Delhi, officials said they have already written
to the home ministry to allow it to abolish the 1% quota for them.
"Our government is committed to safeguard the interests of all communities," Delhi
chief minister Sheila Dikshit said.
The cabinet also decided to allow existing higher educational institutions
in Lal Dora, extended Lal Dora and other non-conforming areas this year. The increase
in intake and addition of courses by these institutions has also been approved.
The cabinet’s decision will benefit 24 institutes.
