With just 20 days to go for CAT, here are a few points to help you prepare better.
Come October 22 and CAT will be out of the bag. We know that
you would be busy studying and sharpening your answering abilities.
With about 20 days remaining for CAT depending upon when you have booked your slot,
here’s a look at how you should use this period to maximize your score in CAT 2011.
First of all, if you are not already proficient in taking tests on computer, please
ensure that you take enough tests during the next one month. Since CAT will be conducted
in about 40 slots and the difficulty level of the paper may not to be the same in
each of these slots, you should not have any pre-determined target in terms of minimum
number of attempts you should have in each section.
Your approach should be to attempt as many questions as you can. If the test is
difficult, you will be able to attempt fewer questions and if it is easier, you
may be able to attempt more. You should plan your time in such a manner that you
are able to read each question properly and decide which questions are easier and
should be attempted for sure. However, don’t spend too much time on any one question
even if you think it is easy or it is from an area you are comfortable with. I suggest
that you fix an ‘exit time’ of about 2.5 minutes after which you would move to the
next question. It is extremely important that you take enough mock tests as per
the new pattern of CAT so that you are able to optimally use 70 minutes allotted
to each section.
The new pattern of CAT combines Quantitative ability and Data Interpretation to
be attempted in 70 minutes in the first section. Since you are not allowed to leave
the section even if you finish it in less than 70 minutes, plan how you will use
this time fruitfully. Also, plan to divide time between QA and DI so that you don’t
neglect any area. You may like to start with your stronger area between these two.
Second section will consist of Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning in one section
to be attempted in 70 minutes. CAT 2010 did have some system glitches. But this
it is likely to be a smooth affair.
