Online Application Link for Entrance Test Now Functional
The deadline to apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering
(GATE) has been extended to October 21, officials stated on their website.
Several candidates appearing for the exam complained that the online link to apply
for the entrance test was dysfunctional for the past five days. TOI had highlighted
the issue on Friday following which the decision to extend the deadline was taken.
The GATE online application link stated on Friday morning that, "There is an unprecedented
rush to apply for GATE 2012. In view of this, the last date for application has
been extended. If you experience reduced access speeds, we request you to kindly
bear with us and try again."
On Friday, TOI published a report when candidates appearing for the exam complained
that the link was dysfunctional for five days. The candidates said they had been
preparing for the exam for two years and they would lose a year if they fail to
access the link. Earlier, the last date to submit online application forms was October
17. The online application website further stated that, "The last date for submission
of online application is set at October 21. The last date for the receipt of printed
version of online application at the respective zonal GATE office is now set at
October 28." While the online exam is scheduled for January 29, 2012, the offline
exam will be held on February 12.
GATE is jointly administered and conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Admissions to the M.Tech course
will be open from March 15 to July next year. GATE results will be announced on
March 15, 2012. An aspirant, Rajesh Yadav, said, "I tried to open the link on Friday
morning and it was functional. Without wasting any time I applied for the exam as
I have put in two years to prepare for the exam and I did not want this year to
go waste."
