First IIT in the country to launch a five week Foundation Programme for its first
year students
The wannabe engineers at IIT- Gandhi Nagar, who got admission
on Monday 18th July 2011, will get into the fun mode right at the start of their
academic session.
IIT- Gandhi Nagar is a trendsetter of sorts in this regard. This is the first IIT
in the country to launch a five week Foundation Programme for its first year students.
This programme, scheduled to take place between July 19 and August 23, will take
the new students through a variety of events like guest lecturers documentary screening,
visits to rural areas, street plays and community service.
The students will be introduced to a variety of topics that range from historical
and cultural studies of past civilizations, art and culture, sports, issues of national
and international significance. The foundation towards contributing to the community
will also be set during the programme.
Sudhir Jain, director of IIT- Gandhi Nagar said: This is the first time
that such a programme is being held at an IIT. These five weeks we will focus on
sports, inculcating team work, work culture and values among the students. The programme
has been also designed to give these students a break from academics, as they have
just gone through the rigours of IIT-JEE.
