The university has not decided the dates for the second round of counselling, but
Bandyopadhyay says he is hopeful it will begin by next week.
Although the new academic session at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha
University (GGSIPU) has started, seats for most courses are not yet full. The admission
process at GGSIPU on-campus schools and affiliated colleges is on-going as the counselling
sessions are in progress.
Since the university is expecting to take some more time to complete its counselling
sessions, it has come up with an idea of conducting extra classes for students admitted
after the second round of counselling, so that they do not miss out on their studies.
DK Bandyopadhyay, vice-chancellor , GGSIPU, says, "The delay in counselling has
occurred because AICTE (All Indian Council for Technical Education) took a long
time in communicating to us about the desired number of student intake in courses
like B.Tech and BArch. We have heard from them only recently."
The first round of counselling is not over yet. While the first round of counselling
for BEd, B.Sc (Hons), BCA, BBA, BA LLB, BBA LLB, BJMC (Bachelor of journalism and
mass communication) and nursing are through, counselling sessions for B.Tech and
MBBS courses are still in queue.
The university has not decided the dates for the second round of counselling, but
Bandyopadhyay says he is hopeful it will begin by next week.
As per the VC, it takes between seven and eight days for classes to begin in full
swing after the beginning of an academic session, a reason why students who have
been admitted after the first round of counselling will not lose much study-time.
The concern is for students joining after the second round of counselling, as they
will lose out on a minimum of two to three weeks of classes, and hence the university's
decision to organise extra classes for these students.
"The staff of on-campus schools and colleges affiliated to GGSIPU has already been
directed to conduct extra classes for those students who would have missed their
classes due to delayed admissions. The schools are free to either conduct these
classes in extended hours after regular classes, or during weekends, as per their
convenience," he says.
The orientation programme for newcomers in GGSIPU took place at the new
Dwarka campus. According to Bandyopadhyay, the yearly academic strength of GGSIPU,
which was 21,000 students last year, has been increased to 22,000 students this
year.
