Introduction
Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3,000 years ago in China.
It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any
given space to assure the health and good fortune for people inhabiting it. Feng"
means "wind" and "shui" means "water". In Chinese culture gentle wind and clear
water have always been associated with good harvest and good health, thus "good
feng shui" came to mean good livelihood and fortune, while "bad feng shui" came
to mean hardship and misfortune. Feng Shui seeks to promote prosperity, good health,
and general well being by examining how energy, qi, pronounced "chee," flows through
a particular room, house, building, or garden.
History
The practice of Feng Shui began in the West Han dynasty around the third century
BC. Feng Shui believes that the earth is a living thing and has life and energy.
The energy or 'chi' of a site depends on its topography and its physical surrounding.
A site with revitalizing energy is healthy and a site with bad energy was damaging
to those who lived on it. Ever since then it has been incorporated into traditional
Chinese architecture and has been followed by the rich and poor alike.
Scope
When China was under imperial rule, feng shui was a secret, known only to a handful
of astronomers and scientists commissioned with maintaining the health, wealth,
and power of the court. Imperial palaces and cities were planned according to feng
shui, which became a principle of classical Chinese architecture. Beijing's Forbidden
City is an example. Traditional Chinese feng shui has evolved and influenced many
lives not only in Asia but also in the United States and other parts of the world.
While changes have been made to the practice of traditional feng shui, it has basically
remained true to its directives through the last thousand of years. Nowadays, many
use it to seek success, romance, wealth and other aspects which it was not originally
made for but has eventually developed into. Bill Clinton in USA Tony Blair, in UK
Donald Trump, the real estate magnet Anitha Roddick, who is the promoter of Body
Shop and in India several large industrial houses are today using it.

Physical Challenge:
The classical Feng Shui consultation involves no guesswork. Every building has unique
energy characteristics that need to be individually addressed. We say that True
Feng Shui recommendations utilize only the five elements and not such things as
mirrors, flutes, incense, or prayers. Just as a qualified physician will not make
a prescription without first meeting the patient, a proper Feng Shui analysis requires
a visit to the property.
Psychological challenge:
Feng Shui looks at not only the environment, but also the orientation of the property
within that environment. Feng Shui is not related to any religion or belief system.
A qualified Practitioner is one who
has studied with a Master for many years and has acquired a scientific discipline,
thus enabling them to apply complex calculations and an in-depth understanding of
the fundamental principles of Feng Shui. Only then are they able to make very specific
recommendations that can effect positive changes in one’s lifestyle, relationships
and financial returns. Feng shui is not applied properly, or rather, without common
sense, it can even harm the environment
Career Options
Feng Shui can be used to decide the location, construction, and architectural features
of buildings, the placement and style of furniture, colors and decorating schemes,
and the location of plantings, paths, and other outside features. By creating a
more pleasing atmosphere, feng shui has been credited with improving family communication,
restoring employee cooperation, and increasing a store's sales. Feng Shui is used
by Landscape ecologists, Environmental scientists, landscape architects, Architectural
schools, Geographers. Feng Shui is also used by medical practitioners to treat psychosomatic
diseases. The principles can be applied to any style of building or decorating,
not just to Chinese or Asian modes. Feng Shui consultants personally visit people
at their homes where they rearrange the furniture, consult ancient charts, and ask
pointed questions about people's personal lives and strive to uncover the origins
of weight gain, financial disaster, and depression by consulting ancient charts
and text. They have to place objects in different positions and changes color schemes
within the home in an effort to tweak the flow of energy and create a haven where
mind, body, and spirit can relax and combat stress and disharmony.
