Students are allowed to take the subsequent first-year exams as ex-students (not
regulars)
The first-year undergraduate students who were admitted under
the annual mode in the 2010-11 academic session and failed to make it to the second
year have to get themselves re-admitted under the semester scheme, being introduced
from the 2011-12 session. They will also have to study the new course.
A DU notification on June 29, 2011, stated: Students who have failed in the first-year
examination of any of the undergraduate courses which were under the annual mode
till the academic session 2010-11 and shall be running in the semester system from
the academic session 2011-12 or those who could not appear in the first-year examination
be re-admitted by their respective colleges to the first year of the courses under
the semester scheme as regular students. The year of admission for these students
will also be 2011-12.
According to the annual scheme, if a student fails in the first-year exams,
fails to score the minimum marks, falls short of attendance or did not appear in
the exams, they are allowed to take the subsequent first-year exams as ex-students
(not regulars). On clearing this exam, they could join the second year as a regular
student and pursue the course in the respective college. The students will start
afresh from this year as the university is shifting from the annual to the semester
mode. The courses have also changed. So the students will sit with the new batch
and study the new semester based course, said Gargi College principal Meera Ramachandran.
