The third CAP round is for the seats vacant after the first two rounds
The engineering admissions for round III begin from Monday
but aspiring candidates are stumped by the errors that have appeared on the allotment
list.
The list, which was put up on Saturday, has allotted a male student a seat in the
female category. Several students from the open category have been placed in the
reserved category. Authorities said that admissions will be given to all students
whose names are on the list.
The engineering admissions began last month and many students have already been
allotted seats in the first two common allotment process (CAP) rounds. The third
CAP round is for the seats vacant after the first two rounds. While the list was
displayed on Saturday, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE)has asked students
to seek admissions from August 22 to 24. A parent whose son has applied for the admission
and been allotted a seat in the female category said, My son has been allotted a
seat in the women’s category. On going through the list, I saw there are several
male students who have been allotted seats under that category. It could be a technical
error, but my son is hassled.
In the list for Terna Engineering College, Navi Mumbai, an SC candidate has been
allotted a seat reserved for the ST category. In Mandar Education Societys College
of Engineering, Pedhambe, an OBC candidate, has been given a seat in the nomadic
tribe category. In the same college, a couple of open category students are allotted
seats in the ST and nomadic tribe category. In Konkan Gyanpeeth College of Engineering,
Karjat, an open male category student has been allotted a seat reserved for female
Vimukta Jati candidate in electronics and telecommunication engineering. Several
such errors have come to the fore. Students are worried about colleges asking documents
to support their claim for reservation.
While S K Mahajan, director of DTE, was unavailable for comment, a senior
official said, In the third list, usually all seats from the reserved categories
are converted into open seats. These are the vacant seats. Students whose names
have appeared on the list need not worry about documents as they will be given admission.
He said the error seemed to be technical.
