Centralized Admission Process in the current academic year for the first-year engineering
course
The Bombay high court has directed the state government to
forthwith notify D Y Patil Education Society in the centralized admission process
in the current academic year for the first-year engineering course, subject to the
college being granted affiliation by Shiva ji Nagar University, Pune.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Girish Godbole on July
18, 2011 also ruled that until affiliation is granted, the college shall not admit
students and accept fees.
The judges have directed the society’s chairman and secretary to file an undertaking
before the court to this effect. In its petition, the society said it applied to
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for approval to commence engineering
courses at its college at Talasande, Kolhapur. AICTE granted approval on July 12,
2011 and the decision was published on its website on July 14, 2011.
However the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) did not include the colleges
name in the list published by it on July 14, 2011 for centralized admission process.
The society approached DTE, which said it would consider the names of only those
institutions which were granted approval by AICTE on or before June 30, 2011.
Additional government pleader Rajesh Be here did not dispute the fact that although
AICTE had granted approval to the society, it was received by DTE on July 16, 2011,
after the deadline.
