The centralized evaluation of answer sheets is already on and the top management
of DU is actively supervising it
With the semester exam of all first-year courses over, an
ambitious Delhi University is planning to declare results within the next fortnight.
This was the first time that all courses in the first year had switched to the semester
system. The university was left with only a short span of time to evaluate answer
sheets and come out with results before the next semester begins. DU officials say
after students it is they who are working overtime to stick to a tight schedule.
With 4,000 teachers and nearly 4 lakh answer-sheets, the task of evaluation certainly
seems Herculean. We are working towards bringing out the results for most courses
by the end of this month. The centralized evaluation of answer sheets is already
on and the top management of DU is actively supervising it, said a senior DU official
who did not wish to be named. He added, our evaluation centres are open even on
Sundays so that answer sheets can be checked well in time. Known for declaring results
late, DUs examination branch had managed to come out with semester and annual results
by June in the last academic session.
One of the major concerns expressed by teachers who oppose the semester system was
the delivery of results on time which would have to be done twice during an academic
year. Conducting the semester exams was the first phase of our task which went off
quite successfully. Evaluation is the second phase which is likely to get over later
this month. We are keeping our fingers crossed and working long hours, the official
said. Though DU claims the examination process went off smoothly, students felt
the hiccups due to a lack of communication between DU and colleges.
